the hb dragon

Although acquainted with Eric for many years here in Taiwan I never truly
knew the man behind the enthusiasm, easy going manner and the smile. I will
long remember, however, for those characteristics...and will always think of
him as a 'good' man." the hb dragon

Broken Dream

This is my farewell, dear Eric, memorial song:

Read along with the lyrics:

One more illusion shattered
One more broken dream
Oh, that the morning brings the sun
Gone are the days when I could
Bounce right back again
See how the tears flow down
Like sweet summer rain
Where does it leave me now?
I find myself so free again

Even the smallest traces
Of your sweet perfume
Open the floodgates and I'm helpless
Now as the moonlight shadows
Cast across my room
Only these whispered words
Are heard in the night

Only a silent prayer
I love you still
I always will

Out of the dark I stumbled
Into the light
Only my fear has tumbled
I think I always knew
That I would run to you

Somewhere there's children playing
Somewhere far away
Running with open arms to greet me
Over the hill the sunset
Dies and fades away
I turn and I close the door
With one last goodbye
I will return no more
I'll take my heart and let it fly

Peace, my dear brother.
I love you and am coming along soon..

Some Words from Mountain Dave

In response to an email from Mike...

Hey Mike,

Yeah, well said, it is very much like a "huge hole has been carved out of the middle of my being". It's now pretty much becoming a reality that i'm dealing w/, as much as i wish it weren't so. And yes, you're right, he was probably looking at his body in wonderment as the revival process was underway. I wish i knew w/ certainty that the samadic/transcendental states that i experienced during my period of transcendence (insanity, as some of you may remember it to be) was freely and openly available to all at our passing from this realm of being. I like to believe it is; but i don't know that to be so. Not to say that i know those states to be the ultimate states available to us, but there's no doubt that i experienced bliss for quite some time, and that if i knew that death was that good or better then i would not in the least feel remorse for anyone who could obtain that upon departure from this hectic world of confusion and mistrust. Anyhow, i keep thinking good thoughts of our good friend and hoping that those thoughts will direct him towards and into a greater place to be than is the world of samsara from which he has recently departed.

Those were some great days, with some great friends, hanging out in the splendor of Chu Tzu Hu. I never knew Pat, tho i have heard of him from our friends. Nor do i know if his passing was expected or untimely. Michael was a good friend, and i was in fairly regular communication w/ him after i left the rock, but Mike had spoken of leaving the planet and suicide for many years, so his departure was not that much of a surprise to me. What was a surprise was the loss of Eric, who lived/loved life w/ a passion that just makes it seem so fucking unfair that he should be taken from us at such an early age, and in otherwise such great physical condition. But, as his dad put it to me, "Eric was just unfortunate to have received his mother's side of the family's predisposition to heart failure". Fuck!

Eric was a great friend to many of us, and i know that he will be missed by all of us who loved him, and who he loved.

Love,
Dave

Some Recollections

Eric was one of my first friends in Taiwan and we always remained close.

I believe I met Eric through Howard Brewer and Howard's circle of friends in the Peitou area back in probably 1988, a year after I arrived. Eric at that time lived in Chu Tzu Hu (Bamboo Lake) which is in the beautiful Yang Ming Mountain National Park. He lived in a compound of one-story homes which were perched on the edge of the mountain and from where could enjoy a outstanding view of the entire basic of Taipei basin. At night it was especially fine.

Another thing about Bamboo Lake was that it's several degrees cooler there in the summer, but on the other side of the year, winter, it would often be cloud covered, cold and wet. And it was far from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Initially I kinda became Eric's computer guy. He was an early adopter; one of the very first to start using PCs... and do the environment (hot springs and high humidity) computers always needed fixing!

Our shared interests were largely in Taoism and the I Ching; both topics that I have been interested in for decades.

It was around 1989 that Eric introduced me to Ed Sanchez and Pro QC. They needed help with their office network and I was hired to take on a full-time position. I worked at Pro QC for ten years, and after a 7 year absence I am back at Pro QC. I'm quite thankful for the intro! Helped me to afford raising two daughters.

My fondest memories of Eric are of recent vintage. Up until a year or so ago he would call and invite me to go on hikes with him. Most of the time I passed, but the times I did go was always great. Two of the last hikes included going to the hidden and remote Artesian Well #3 in Yang Ming Shan. It was initially harnessed by the Japanese as the water supply for Peitou and Shih Pai. It is really an amazing sight! Water just flows full force right out of a huge cave and comes down a 30 waterfall before starting it's journey down into Peitou and on into the Strait of Taiwan.

Another hike we went on was the small volcano in the center of Yang Ming Shan Park. I remember getting to the caldera which was is a quiet forested area filled with delicate ferns. Pristine!

I think all Eric's would agree that he enjoyed talking shop; shop being healing, diet, Pa Gua, the I Ching, global finance, global decay, survival-ism, magnetism, and human/earth energy circuits for example.

The short video I shot of him doing some Pa Gua movements was based on his discovery of a very short video of Pa Gua master in China demonstrating about 10 different moves. Eric thought these were the missing link in all his studies and would go on and on about how much doing these helped him.

In recent years Eric has lived in the same neighborhood as I do which allowed us to get together often. Last time we did was about a month ago. I talked to him about two weeks ago on the phone.

I'm sure I'll find time to write more; but I'll close this post with mention of something I will certainly miss about Eric: he could give the most awesome massages EVER. I am happy to have been treated to a few of them.
